My Holiday in North Korea: TheFunniest/Worst Place on Earth
Tuesday, September 20, 2016, 6 p.m.
Free admission, no tickets required

A born explorer, Wendy Simmons was thrilled when she was granted a rare entry visa to North Korea, despite the country’s penchant for detaining tourists. In her book, My Holiday in North Korea: TheFunniest/Worst Place on Earth, Wendy offers a glimpse of North Korea as it has never been seen before. For ten days, she hurtles through the country with two female “handlers.” During the Gaston Lecture presentation, Wendy will chronicle one of the strangest vacations ever through poignant and laugh-out-loud stories, accompanied by stunning photographs and will offer a revealing glimpse into a secretive land.

Wendy won’t stop travelling until she visits every country in the world. Despite her hatred for packing, she’s managed to explore more than eighty-five so far – including territories and colonies – and chronicles her adventures on her blog, wendysimmons.com and on Huffington Post. Her writing has also been published on Travel & Leisure, PopSugar MSN, and Yahoo. She is president of Vendeloo, a consultancy she founded in 2001, Chief Brand Officer of a NYC-based global eyewear brand, and an award-winning photographer. She graduated summa cum laudeand Phi Beta Kappa from George Washington University.

All Gaston Lectures are open to the public with free general admission seating. Jim and Jill Gaston of Gaston’s Resort on the White River endowed the ASUMH Gaston Lecture Series in 1997 to challenge individuals to think, reason, and learn. The Gaston Lectures, which are held each fall and spring semester, will forever serve as a reminder of his generosity.
